Background:

There is a substantial corpus of works that center around Intelligence Augmentation (IA), the future of HCI and AI, and the role of humans in the future. The goal of this workshop is to foster a community from both academia and industry that considers agency and ethics in IA on a practical level. That is, how and when do we present the scopes and limits of an IA application or system to users? This is a fraught question since informed consent initiatives can actually backfire, and not be indicative of an individual's real intentions. Too much information may then be counter-productive.

Workshop Goals:

Activate an Interdisciplinary Community Focused on Ethical Dimensions in IA in HCI: Intelligence Augmentation is not new, but is continually evolving. The potential impact that new integrated systems can have, demands attention. It is vital that a diverse community of experts is brought together to discuss practical and ethical issues that face end-users in all facets of the IA. In this workshop, we will focus specifically on human-computer and human-machine interactions, and work towards formalizing a code of ethics for designers and administrators.   

 

Identify Network Externalities of IA: It is often difficult for IA system designers to accurately predict how their technology impacts individuals and communities. We seek to hear from designers and practitioners who have observed and studied how IA is adopted, adapted, and even mitigated.

LeCycl:

The workshop serves as a companion to the Learning Cyclotron (LeCycl) project. The aim of this project is to augment and amplify human intelligence with artificial intelligence. In particular, we propose and develop Learning Cyclotron (LeCycl), a framework that monitors and actuates learning processes. This workshop is the second in a series following LeCycl 22 at Ubicomp/ISWC 2022.
